The Apprentice 5 ? Episode 7 - Gold Rush Hits a Low Note as Lenny Sees Red

As the episode opens, we see Bryce getting fired again and a weeping Leslie back at the suite. She is upset because she?s losing a friend. News flash Leslie, keep up the crappy job and you?ll lose a friend each task ? gasp, you may even been leaving yourself. As Lee and Lenny return to the suite, Lenny tells us that he has to be PM because the Trumpster told him that he is on thin ice. I like Lenny a lot and since Brent left, he has provided the really only real comedy on the show, but as a PM I can only think this episode we will see Lenny crash and burn.

The next day the Apprentices meet the Trumpster at the Trump Building at 40 Wall Street. Apparently the infamous Omarosa incident did cause a few changes on set, as all the would-be apprentices are donning hard-hats. Trump introduces the next task, which is to renovate a recreational area of a Boy?s and Girl?s Club. http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/4493/week7p211sj.jpgThe Trumpster explains that the teams will be judged on three criteria: creativity, functionality and appeal to two Ace Hardware Executives and the Boy?s and Girl?s Club Executive. This renovation is part of Ace?s campaign to be do-gooders in their communities and they call this venture: New Faces for Helpful Places Program.

Lenny stays true to his word and steps up as PM on the task. Team Gold Rush heads to the Boy?s and Girl?s Club to survey the area they are to renovate. It looks pretty bleak, so I am hoping they have big plans in store. Charmaine reminds her team that they will be meeting with the executives and they need to come up with something to ask them. Lenny and Lee seem to be having a love-fest and can their only focus is what type of activities the room should have. Lenny decides that they need to focus on music, art or dance and Lee tells us all he wanted to do when he was he was fourteen was bang on some drums. For Lee fourteen was about a year ago and I can?t help but think he is not going to have much to contribute on this task. http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/2154/week7p313fq.jpgAs the team sits down to their meeting with the executives, as foreshadowed, Lenny doesn?t know what to ask. At one point he actually tells the executives that they gave him a good answer. The meeting lasts all of ten minutes and Charmaine is the only person to really ask anything of worth. She however, flubs the name of the program and is corrected by one of the executives. Things are looking as dank for Gold Rush as the room they are renovating.

Over at Synergy, Michael has stepped up as PM and the team heads over to their space. The meet with the executives and it looks as if things are going much better for them. Michael asks a number of pointed questions and just as the meeting appears to be wrapping up he continues prattling off more and more questions. By the looks on the executives? faces, it appears as if they feel like they are on 21 Questions, not the Apprentice. http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/7605/week7p519qn.jpgThe rest of Synergy is also visibly annoyed with Michael and in a confessional Andrea points out that Michael is constantly asking the same question in forty different ways. After forty-five minutes of grilling, Michael has run out of material and the meeting breaks.

Synergy sits down to discuss the ideas for the recreational activities that the room will have. He says they will have a TV area, a gaming area, a girls? area and an interactive music area. Allie starts to pipe up and tells the team that the stores are closing in four hours, at which point Michael wants to move back to the area and discuss color schemes. While mulling over colors, we see a split screen and it appears that while Michael is discussing colors, Gold Rush is busy purchasing renovation supplies. By 7PM Michael finally decides they need to shop. In a confessional, Sean tells us that it is dark outside and team Synergy is still, ?pissing around.? He seems frustrated to no end and does a bit of an English jig to illustrate this frustration.

At Gold Rush, it appears that have decided on the musical theme. http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/227/2tapmbn0518sd.jpgTarek, Charmaine and Leslie are all working on the painting and Charmaine starts to complain about something or another and wants professional painters. At this point, we are treated to a confessional from Tarek. He tells us that listening to Charmaine is like listening to nails on a chalkboard, further noting that what comes out of her mouth is mindless blabber. Mr. Mensa is not so fond of Charmaine and since he is a Mensa member, I am inclined to take him at his word.

Over at Synergy, the team has split up to do some last minute shopping and Michael, Tammy and Andrea go to purchase renovation supplies from Ace Hardware, while Allie, Sean and Roxanne are left to purchase the recreational items. Allie, Sean and Roxanne seem to take no time getting things together and are headed back with supplies, as Michael and Andrea are still picking out paint colors. Michael phones the others to find out what items they purchased and the trio seems a bit annoyed, but runs down the list. Andrea finally tells Michael that he has to come to decision on the paint colors, but Mr. Indecisive, is not ready and resorts to phoning the other half of his team again. http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/773/week7p712jp.jpgRoxanne answers the phone as the other two are laughing uncontrollably. Roxanne can?t keep it together and joins in the giggle fest. Michael is trying to ask them questions, but he can hear some heavy-duty laughing going on at the other end. In the confessional of confessionals this season, Sean tells us that Michael is an absolute ?wanker.? Now I am not an expert on the British culture, having only visited London once, but even I know that being called a ?wanker,? is not a good thing.

Synergy reunites at the club and Bill pops in to check on their progress. Bill appears to have noticed that for all the time they have had thus far, not much has been done. Bill asks Andrea how Michael is as a PM, right as Michael is standing there. Andrea ignores the question entirely and actually looks like she cares enough not to drag Michael over the coals. The team finishes their renovations up and the end result looks very colorful.

Back at Gold Rush, we see that Leslie, Mr. Mensa and Charmaine are all patting themselves on the back for busting their humps to complete the renovations. http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/1853/2tapmdn0515jh.jpgMeanwhile Lee and Lenny appear to be lost somewhere in Queens? I don?t know exactly where they are, but an odd sounding Yiddish-type music plays in the background. Strange I think, but perhaps it?s an inside joke that I just don?t get? Finally Lenny and Lee arrive back at the club to lend their hands to the effort. Charmaine continues complaining about all the work they have done and Lenny quickly tells her to shut up.

It?s presentation time and back at Synergy, Michael is pitching their renovation to the executives. He explains that their room?s theme is ?The Lounge,? noting that all of the elements are fully interactive. It looks really nice, especially considering what they had to start with. Michael does a good job and it looks like the executives really like what they are seeing. They ask some children that are members of the club in and it looks like they like it as well.

At Gold Rush, Lenny is presenting. He introduces himself fine, but as for the rest of the ?Music? theme, he stumbles. His sidekick though is there to pick up the ball and continues to explain all the equipment, which includes electric keyboards, drum kits and a karaoke machine. Overall the room looked really nice, but the expression on the executives? faces was not a happy one. They invite the children and pandemonium breaks out. The kids are thrilled to see what has been done to the old room and waste no time in jumping on the instruments. It looks like team Gold Rush is a hit with the kids at least.

The executives bring together both teams and get the Trumpster on a conference call. The Boys and Girls Club executive speaks first, stating that Synergy understood what the Boys and Girls Club was about and did an excellent job integrating that into their renovation. The other executives then hammer Gold Rush on their efforts and state the room did not offer anything to foster teamwork amongst the kids. So Synergy is quickly declared the winner and in a confessional, Sean points out that Michael is extremely lucky because their win had nothing to do with him and everything to do with his team. The Trumpster tells Synergy their reward will be granting a wish, through the ?Make A Wish Foundation,? to a very sick little girl. For Gold Rush, it?s yet another trip to the boardroom.

At their reward, Synergy gets to take a little girl named Tashira to Toy R Us on a shopping spree. The Trumpster pops in on the reward and helps Tashira pick out some toys. http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/6065/week7p1315fe.jpgThe girls on the team are picking up all kinds of things to glam Tashira up and it looks like this was quite a wish come true for her. It?s a very touching moment when I think about it, as this poor little girl is afflicted with a rare brain cancer. I don?t see much of Synergy and that?s all right by me. At the end of the clip we hear little Tashira say this is the best day of her life. I am such a sap for this kind of thing and I think that the producers know full well that can put a reward like this in and save a rather boring episode. Oh well, another good deed is done and that is what counts.

Back at the suite, Lenny begins talking about the upcoming visit to the boardroom. He states that he did nothing wrong on the task and that he is going to blame the loss on Charmaine, who he felt was negative throughout. Over in Charmaine?s room Mr. Mensa is lining up his ducks, as he talks to Charmaine about the boardroom. I am thinking to myself, here he comes, that pillar of knowledge and look, he?s being so slick about it?..He informs Charmaine that he has no choice except to be critical of Lenny. Really Mr. Mensa, you were complaining about the sound of Charmaine?s voice no less than 12 hours ago and now that it?s boardroom time, you decide to plop yourself down in her room to her what she has to say? He?s a snake I tell ya and a dumb one at that!

Lee and Lenny begin to make a list of things to go over in order to prepare Lenny for the boardroom and I hear that weird Yiddish music again? I think they were trying to play up Lenny being from Russia and whatnot, but hello, he has been here for fourteen years ? shesh I wish these people would keep up! I want to know why the producers didn?t sneak in, ?Oh Canada,? when Brent was on the show, wasn?t that his claim to fame ? his Canadian citizenship? http://img87.imageshack.us/img87/3636/week7p1415ih.jpgAnyway, Lee is making a list of buzz words for Lenny to use in describing himself. Crafty and resourceful appear on that list and these are two words that Lenny is not too familiar with?..I have but one piece of advice for Lenny ? learn English before you sign up to be on the Apprentice! They begin to discuss the presentation and Lenny wants to tell the Trumpster that he was poor at the presentation because his mind was a little ?off.? Lee is telling him not to do it and in a confessional Lee tells us that Lenny has become his friend on the show and he wanted him to win so badly. He tells us that he is going to be a stand-up guy and defend his friend to the end. Lenny asks Lee if he can bring him back to the final boardroom, presumably to help him plead his case and Lee whole-heartedly agrees. Not so smart I think Lee ? haven?t you ever seen the Apprentice before? Did you not see the whole Bradford debacle in season 2? What are you thinking? Foolish kid.

Gold Rush heads off to the boardroom and are greeted by Bill, Carolyn and the Trumpster. The Trumpster begins by asking Charmaine if Lenny was a good PM, Charmaine says no and Lenny says that Charmaine was hard to manage. http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/2263/2tapmfn0515ai.jpgTrump doesn?t buy what Lenny is selling. Trump asks Lee about Lenny and of course Lee says that Lenny is fantastic. Bill then asks about the theme of the project and Lenny defends himself that he was not working for the executives, he was working for the kids. Bill tells him that it was not smart, since the executives were going to evaluate the task. Lee tries to help Lenny out with some politicking on the topic, but it doesn?t work. Carolyn interjects and wants to know what happens when one of the expensive pieces of equipment breaks. In true Lenny fashion, he fires back that they will fix it?.to wit Carolyn wants to know who. Around and around we go, Lenny brings up Synergy?s TV and Carolyn says that?s one thing and so on??you get the idea.

Trumpster wants to know about the presentation and after some defense by Lee, Bill calls Lee Lenny?s lawyer. Carolyn jumps in to say that since Lee is such a great speaker he should have given the presentation and Lee agrees, but says that he felt Lenny should present because it would have shown weakness had he not. http://img102.imageshack.us/img102/2567/week7p1711tq.jpgTrump interrupts to say that it doesn?t matter if Lenny is good at presenting or not, he is good at other things. Trump wants to know if he lost control of his team and Lenny replies no. Charmaine pipes up to say that if it wasn?t for her they would not have met with the executives (like that was of any help whatsoever.) Lenny tells Charmaine that if it wasn?t for her they would have had a ?nice task.? He goes on to say that he wishes she wasn?t there and that all she did was gripe and moan over the color red. Charmaine said yep, she didn?t like the color scheme and the ever-witty Trumpster remarks that of course Lenny wanted to use red because he?s Russian - good one Trumpy ? I can hear the uproarious laughter from the set on that one.

The Trumpster goes down the line and asks who should be fired. Leslie tells him Lenny and the Trumpster asks her about her sports prowess. Apparently Leslie is quite an athlete and she tells Trump that she could beat him in tennis, swimming and volleyball. Next the Trumpster asks Mr. Mensa to use his ?lower-levels of mensa? and wants to know what went wrong. Mr. Mensa says Lenny didn?t have organization and didn?t develop the theme, thus he should be fired. Moving along to Lee, the Trumpster pointedly asks him who should be fired and Lee starts to go off on some inner-city tangent and Trump tells him to cut the crap, he wants an answer. Lee says he would fire Charmine. The ever incredulous Carolyn wants to know if Lee really thinks that Charmaine did a worse job than Lenny. Lee tells her that he believes in Lenny and as a friend he is going to stand by him. Finally Trump wants to know who Lenny is bringing back and quickly Lenny tells him Lee and Charmaine. http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/4302/week7p1810ni.jpgTrumpster wants to know why Lee and Lenny replies that he will be his advocate. With that the Trumpster decides to call it a day and tells the loveable Lenny that he?s fired. Before they leave the boardroom, Trump voices his admiration for Lee and his loyalty in standing up for his friend.

Out in the hallway as everyone awaits their respective elevators, Charmaine approaches Lenny to say she?s sorry, it wasn?t personal. Lenny dismisses her and calls her two-faced. Charmaine is upset and she tries to get Lenny to kiss and make up, but it?s a no go. She storms off toward the elevator and in a choked-up voice claims she has never had ten thousand faces. Lenny says goodbye to all the other members of the team and heads off to his taxi. As Lenny leaves he tells us that he is a good leader and he hopes that Lee wins the whole thing.

That was hot. :smokin

I want to know why the producers didn’t sneak in, “Oh Canada,” when Brent was on the show, wasn’t that his claim to fame – his Canadian citizenship?

:lol I didn't even remember that about Brent! :rofl

Sean tells us that Michael is an absolute “wanker.” Now I am not an expert on the British culture, having only visited London once, but even I know that being called a “wanker,” is not a good thing.

My favorite moment of the show! (besides his little dance!)

Its a tough task to write a funny recap about a show that features a kid with brain cancer. But putting that aside, great job Erika! I love your funny characterization of the contestants, (especially my favorite snake, Mr Mensa)!
