I'm not vindictive about Sharon or singling her out. I think she's been a strong queen this season and deserves to win based on that but I do not think she is absolved of criticism just because she is popular.

I've called Phi Phi a sour bitch many times. I do not condone her antics on the show but I do recognise that she's a fairly unstable individual that's been thrown into the pressure cooker of reality tv without the proper coping mechanisms to not look like an ass. She's been exploited for the drama. Whilst being an inexperienced queen who is lucky to make it this far, Phi Phi still deserves some recognition. Just this past episode I was impressed that she created her couture look by herself whilst Sharon only stuck fur to knee-high boots and wore a sequinned top she bought. She's a talented queen when it comes to sewing.

Just because I've said one or two nice things about a queen doesn't mean I favour her, she should have left at the top 6. It's not that black and white as if you have to pick a side and stick to it. There are strengths and flaws in all the queens. I do not feel like a white man freely using the n-word deserves to be given the benefit of the doubt. I hated when Phi Phi did The Help joke and I hate how Sharon exploits racial slurs and imagery for shock. They both deserve the reactions they've received tbh.

I've even been critical of Chad. She's been incredibly underwhelming and safe throughout the competition that I feel the only reason she's lasted this long is because of her reputation. I'm bored with her.

I'm no prude either, I'm a big fan of artists like John Waters. But when he does tasteless acts like getting Divine to eat dog faeces on film, he can clearly justify his intentions or own up when his actions are empty. When Sharon justifies her use of hate imagery and racial slurs she refers people to Patti Smith. But I want to know why she feels Patti Smith's song is so relevant and inspiring to her, not that it is relevant and inspiring because that is ambiguous.

I'm the type of person that when they see a straight person using 'gay' as an insult or using the word 'f----t' I will call them out on it, doesn't matter if they are friends or family. The same with racial slurs, I do not believe in the normalising of slurs. I can't help that this has dented my enthusiasm for Sharon but I hope that there is some resolution at the reunion or in a future interview. I would have avoided Sharon full-stop if I didn't grow to love her for most of this season, I want to respect her as an artist as much as I did before. But we'll see if she says anything deeper about it.

Thank you for writing this because it is literally the exact same way that I feel about this situation. I think that many of her fans are letting her slide based on her talent and shtick, but that is not enough to cover the fact that she's using such loaded and hateful words that she has no idea about. :bonk

I wouldn't say that Sharon doesn't know what she's saying. She just doesn't give a ****.

I feel like I'm 90% sure that Sharon will get runner-up. There's no way that production/the sponsors didn't do a background check on all of the contestants and I highly doubt the sponsors would allow such a controversial contestant to win and represent them. It could lead to boycotts of their products.

But lets be real though, RuPaul is 100% all about pushing boundaries and raunchy humor. Ru isn't just some prude queen. I was watching Another Gay Sequel last night, and RuPaul's character said some pretty racy stuff. Of course, it was said in humor but I know one joke was about getting rid of all the black people so Spring Break could be more fun, and then the crowd cheered. Stuff like that. We really have to judge the content of the person's character. Sharon is a VERY VERY intelligent queen, so I do believe that Sharon knows exactly what she's saying. Its absurdest humor. It just so happens that not everyone GETS Sharon, and I think she's ok with that. From everything I know about Sharon, she LOVES black people (and asian, latina, etc). I'm not paying much mind to the "controversy".

Ru once appeared in a movie as a drag queen named Rachel Tensions (racial tensions), wearing a confederate flag dress. Someone else have linked in Phi Phi's thread, it's at the 6 minutes mark I believe. Considering what that flag once stood for, I think this kind of politically incorrect humor amuses her greatly. Ru's never been a PC queen and still managed to get deals with Absolut and MAC on her own, so I don't think Sharon's shock tactics rule her out of the grand prize.

I was watching Project Runway on Friday and watched the episode where the designers had to design for drag queens.
One of the drag queens was Sharon Needles but not this Sharon Needles.
Does anyone know if these two queens are from the same house or how they share the same name?

I actually re-watched that episode of PR in November when I watched the 'Meet the queens' with Sharon Needles... They are not the same queens, nor from the same houses...

Hedda Lettuce criticize Sharon Needles in one of her videos for 'stealing' the name of her friend in Project Runway and states that the original Sharon (from PR) have worked for more than 15-16 years using that name.... (btw Hedda Lettuce has an extensive collection of videos criticizing Drag Race, the funny part of it is that she does recaps and everything, such a fan of the show, she's just bitter).

Sharon responded in Facebook about this topic saying that she didn't know anything about that other Sharon Needles and advised any new kid to google their name before starting Drag to avoid this to happen...

I'm not saying she did. Maybe it's a coincidence, or maybe she did steal it from PR, or maybe she stole it from someone else. I'm sure there's even more Sharon Needles out there as well. Even if she did, it's not that big of a deal really. What matters is that she has the talent, and she's the best of season 4.

I don't think she's above shadiness. That whole n word incident proves it. Sharon Needles certainly isn't a saint, and that's her appeal. Plus, like Phi Phi, Sharon was one of the ones encouraging Jiggly to lie if it meant getting ahead.
